Report by Troop 943 Historian and Life Scout Galen M.

Troop 943 tried a new camp site for its November camp out; the site was on the Miyun Reservoir. As Friday night got darker it got colder. The Troop used 9 cars and 1 truck to get to the site. The truck was for carrying our supplies and gear.  It took us a little longer to get out there because we missed the turn into the reservoir area, though we finally got there. When we got there we unpacked are gear from the truck and the cars and set up our tents. Then we made our fire; it was so nice to have a fire. We cooked dinner and afterwards we sat around the fire for about 4 hours to keep warm. We went to bed at 10:00pm. The sleeping was the worst part of the camping trip. It got so cold and I felt like my feet were freezing. The next morning we cooked breakfast and then did our disaster drill. The drill was for the Scouts who were working on the Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge.  I played one of the people who acted like they were hurt; I pretended I had a broken back.

  After that we went back and sat around the fire for a long time. After awhile we started "dog piling" people.  Then my patrol started cooking dinner. Then we made the bonfire using corn stocks and wood. We also had our Order of the Arrow ceremony. The people selected are Michael M., Clayton and Brent L., Monte T., Christian A. and Galen M.   I was honored to be selected for the Order of the Arrow.  Then after sitting and talking we went to bed it was much warmer. The next morning we made breakfast and broke camp. The cars arrived at about 10:00 to take us back to the school.

Friday night it was dark when we got to camp and very cold!!!
 

We needed to get our tents up as fast as possible so we could start dinner and get warm.
 
 

Boy this fire is welcome on a dark, cold and starry night.
Not a single electric light can be seen from our camp.
